FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for producing low molecular weight aromatic compounds. Method of obtaining low molecular weight aromatic compounds from black liquor includes: providing black liquor, which is derived from alkaline treatment of wood chips, where the wood chips are derived from hard wood; subjecting black liquor to pyrolysis treatment so as to obtain, from the pyrolysed black liquor, gas and solid matter containing charred substance and salts in a first reactor, where the salts are mainly derived from black liquor treatment; bringing at least a portion of the gas from the pyrolysed black liquor into contact with a catalyst in a second reactor, which is different from the first reactor, in order to facilitate conversion treatment to produce a conversion product at the output; extraction of low molecular weight aromatic compounds from the conversion product.
EFFECT: higher total yield of low molecular weight aromatic compounds compared with other sources of biomass.
