SUBSTANCE: disclosed is an apparatus for reproducing data recorded on a data medium. The apparatus has a head which projects beams onto the medium, a signal processor and a controller which controls the head. The signal processor reproduces tracking signal polarity information relating to protruding or depressed recording elements.
EFFECT: shorter time for obtaining tracking polarity information.
