SUBSTANCE: method for partial hydrogenation of random copolymers of vinyl aromatic compounds and conjugated dienes is realised in the presence of 2-methoxyethyl tetrahydrofuran as a randomising agent. Reaction of the random copolymer of a vinyl aromatic compound and a conjugated diene dissolved in a hydrocarbon solvent is carried out with hydrogen in the presence of a titanium complex and an alkylating agent until the required degree of hydrogenation is achieved. The alkylating agent is selected from compounds of general formula MgR₁R₂, where R₁ and R₂ are identical or different alkyl radicals with 1-12 carbon atoms. The weight-average molecular weight M_w of the starting random butadiene-styrene copolymer can reach 200000-1000000.

EFFECT: invention improves control of the degree of hydrogenation of the copolymer and enables to maintain or improve mechanical and dynamic properties.
