SUBSTANCE: absorbent paper web comprises cellulose paper-forming fiber and up to 75 wt % fibrillated regenerated cellulose microfiber which can be regenerated from the cellulose solution. As the solvent N-oxide of tertiary amine or a solvent selected from ionic liquids is used. Fibrillation of microfiber is controlled so that the fiber has a reduced graininess and a reduced degree of grinding in comparison with non-fibrillated regenerated cellulose microfiber.

EFFECT: addition of fibrillated fibers in the absorbent web provides the increased value measured by a simple measuring device of absorption capacity and increased value of stretchability in wet condition, increased ratio of stretchabilities in the transverse direction in the wet, dry condition, less geometric average modulus of rupture, increased specific volume.
