FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed is an apparatus for determining thermal expansion of solid bodies, having a tube made from material with a low coefficient of thermal expansion and a pusher placed coaxial to said tube, which is made from the same material as an axial displacement sensor. The pusher is pivotally suspended at one point by a membrane spring which provides the pusher with three degrees of freedom, including longitudinal axial displacement and turning about two other coordinate axes in order to compensate for axial misalignment of the pusher with the tube. The pusher is also provided with a balance weight configured for axial displacement in order to align the centre of gravity of the pusher with the point of suspension.
EFFECT: high accuracy of obtained dilatometry results.
