FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to treat waste water with high concentration of ammonia. The method is realised in a deammonification apparatus for removing active sludge from waste water. To realise the method, ammonia is first converted to nitrite by aerobic oxidising bacteria and ammonia and nitrite are then converted to elementary nitrogen by anaerobic oxidising bacteria, particularly planctomyces. Excess sludge is removed and divided into a heavy fraction which contains a large amount of anaerobic ammonia-oxidising bacteria and a light fraction. The heavy fraction is returned into the apparatus or a settling tank and/or is trapped and fed into another apparatus, and the light fraction is removed.
EFFECT: method provides complete removal of nitrogen while reducing the reaction volume of the settling tank and increasing stability of the treatment process in the apparatus by increasing the amount of anaerobic ammonia-oxidising bacteria to 30%.
