FIELD: measurement equipment.
SUBSTANCE: according to the proposed method, testing of stability of snow cover on avalanche slopes is performed by mechanical action on snow cover adjacent to a near-ridge zone of the crest. For that purpose, ball-shaped or cylinder-shaped snow balls with the weight of several kilograms are made at safe distance from the crest ridge line; then, the above snow balls are dropped either manually, or by means of special devices, or rolled down the slope. If several bumps of such balls against surface of snow cover at the slope do not cause a snow avalanche, then it is considered that snow at the slope is stable. When preparing snow balls under conditions of low temperatures, when snow sticks badly, it is slightly heated either with gas, or petroleum burners.
EFFECT: improving testing accuracy of stability of snow cover on avalanche slopes and providing safe recreative actions on avalanche slopes of ski complexes.
