FIELD: measuring equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to devices for evaluating the mechanical and strength characteristics of the snow cover directly at the site of direct occurrence on the avalanche slopes of ski resorts. Device comprises a cylinder, inside which the rod is located, with a tip made in the form of a load disc, a spring-type throwing device equipped with a spring clamp and a trigger device, as well as strain gauges connected to the meter. To the base of the cylinder, a metal thin-walled cage, in which the inner diameter is equal to the inner diameter of the cylindrical body, is rigidly attached. In addition, device further comprises a damper made in the form of an elastic ring that is located in the cylinder cavity between the stem and the load disc. Elastic ring is rigidly attached to the center of the disc, and with the upper part - to the stem, with the strain gauge located on the lateral surface of the elastic ring at the point of its greatest bending when subjected to a force load. Elastic ring is made of band spring steel, and load disc is made of plastic or wood.

EFFECT: device allows, in the field conditions and with high accuracy, to obtain representative values of the instantaneous uniaxial compression strength of snow without the possibility of lateral expansion.
