SUBSTANCE: computer-implemented data backup and restoration method, comprising steps of: identifying a data storage system to backup; identifying a plurality of functions, each of said plurality of functions having a system state; backing up said data storage system by a method involving writing backup data to a data storage device; restoring said data storage system by a method involving: configuring a base configuration of said data storage system, wherein during said configuration, said plurality of functions is installed in said data storage system; inputting a system state into said base configuration; operating said base configuration using said system state; restoring said backup data into said data storage system when said base configuration operates using said system state.
