FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method involves preparing a starting mechanical mixture of ore and carbon, reducing iron using a physical field generated in an operating zone and treatment in a container insulated from the ambient environment. The starting mechanical mixture used is an air suspension which is obtained by feeding atmospheric air into the treated volume, followed by distribution therein of ore particles with particle size of 1-8 mcm, with content of the latter therein of 20-40% with respect to the entire volume, and the physical field acting on said suspension is a rotating alternating magnetic field whose strength in the treatment zone is 1×107 -1×109 A/m, and frequency is 40-70 Hz. The iron reducing agent used is carbon. The working element of the disclosed apparatus is in form of mated plates made from magnetically conducting material with formation of a closed rectangular loop, and three coil blocks, which act as solenoids, are placed in the body of separate components making up said loop.
EFFECT: group of inventions is used to obtain granular iron with high degree of metal purity from widely used and abundant ores used in metallurgy.
