FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing 2,4-dinitro- or 2,4,6-trinitrobenzoic acids which are used as semi-products in synthesis of biologically active substances, starting compounds in production of dyes and aromatic condensation polymers. The disclosed method of producing 2,4-dinitro- or 2,4,6-trinitrobenzoic acids involves electrochemical oxidation of corresponding polynitrotoluenes in a diaphragm cell, which is equipped with a cathode and an anode, in galvanostatic mode, in an acidic medium. The method is characterised by that electrochemical oxidation is carried out in the presence of cobalt nitrate on a platinum anode in concentrated nitric acid at temperature of 30-40°C and current density of 180-700 A·m-2.
EFFECT: method enables to obtain 2,4-dinitro- or 2,4,6-trinitrobenzoic acids with high substance and current output.
