FIELD: electrical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: device contains an instrument for measurement of voltage variation related to deliberate selection of the known impedance in the electric mains, at that voltage variation includes variation due to break or impedance inhomogenuity in neutral return path, and tool for performance of algorithm to identify break or impedance inhomogenuity when permitted variations of the rated supply voltage are available in the electric mains, including variations of voltage related to operations in the mains which simulate of mask break or impedance inhomogenuity in neutral return path. The device also contains a comparator to compare the result of measurement with reference value in order to identify break or impedance inhomogenuity. The operation of device is based on method for detection of break or impedance inhomogenuity in neutral return path of the electric mains.

EFFECT: reduction of electric shock hazard.
