SUBSTANCE: invention relates to automotive industry. Vehicle steering wheel adjustable in lengthwise direction comprises support, drive and clamping mechanism. Said support is jointed with vehicle chassis. Said drive is arranged between support lateral walls. Said clamping mechanism in opened position allows adjustment of said drive in lengthwise direction of steering column. Said clamping mechanism in closed position allows locking said drive relative to support. Column comprises coupling bolt passed through opening in support lateral walls to revolve about its axis in clamping mechanism opening/closing. Said column comprises component arranged between support lateral walls to be displaced by turning coupling bolt in clamping mechanism opening/closing. Retainer at clamping mechanism closed position engages with mate retainer engaged with the drive. At opened position of clamping mechanism retainer is pulled from mate retainer. Mate retainer is arranged at drive wall located parallel with coupling bolt axis or composed of said wall. Said mate retainer can displace relative to drive to absorb impact power in collision.
