FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to cable industry and specifically to electrically insulating compositions designed for insulation and sheaths of cables and wires, characterised by low emission of smoke and hydrogen chloride during combustion, used in conditions with high fire hazard. The polymer composition contains polyvinyl chloride, an ester plasticiser, a lead stabiliser and a fire-retardant and smoke-suppressant, which contains calcium carbonate, zinc oxide, aluminium oxide trihydrate, antimony trioxide and zinc borate. The composition additionally contains calcium stearate or lead stearate, boric acid, diphenylol propane, phosphorus-containing plasticiser, magnesium hydroxide, magnesium carbonate, calcium oxide or hydroxide, chlorinated polyethylene, organobromine compound, epoxy resin or epoxidated vegetable oil, dipentaerythritol or pentaerythritol. The stabiliser used can be nontoxic complex calcium-zinc heat stabilisers.
EFFECT: invention provides low smoke emission during smouldering and burning, while maintaining low flammability, improves processing of a PVC composition and outward appearance of a plastic compound, increases resistance to heat ageing, widens the range of PVC compositions used to make a cable compound.
