FIELD: personal use articles.

SUBSTANCE: machine for beverage preparation from a cartridge containing one or more beverage ingredients includes a cartridge recognition device for identification of the type of beverage to be prepared from the cartridge, a variable geometry valve positioned downstream the cartridge when inserted into the machine as well as a controller. The said valve enables preparation of beverages under varied pressures due to it having at least one open position and at least one flow limitation position. The controller serves for selection of the valve initial position and control of the valve further operation in accordance with identification of the type of the beverage to be prepared by the cartridge recognition device. Additionally envisaged is a method for preparation of beverages using the machine for preparation of beverages from a cartridge.

EFFECT: invention is aimed at improvement of conventional beverage preparation machines enabling production of a wide range of high quality beverages having different properties, such machines requiring no special operator training and minimum or no cleaning.
