FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing 4-[(2,3-epoxypropoxy)-alkyloxy]-4'-cyanoazobenzenes of general formula: where n=2, 3, 6, 8, 9, 10. The method involves reacting 4-(n-hydroxyalkyloxy)-4'-cyanoazobenzene of general formula: where n=2, 3, 6, 8, 9, 10, with epichlorohydrin and sodium ethylate, the reaction being carried out in ethanol while boiling and simultaneously exposing the reaction mass to ultrasound with frequency of 25-30 kHz for 3-4 hours.

EFFECT: 9-13 times shorter period of reaction of starting substances with epichlorohydrin, 8-10 times shorter duration of separation and purification, considerably low labour input, making the method of producing the desired compounds cheaper and 1.2-1.5 times higher output of end products.
