FIELD: engines and pumps.

SUBSTANCE: solid propellant rod-type specimen with fuse is mounted and burnt in combustion chamber equipped with pressure registration system, pressure feed and release valves. Prior to mounting, unarmored specimen length is measured to armor the specimen. Then, saw cut is made at armored specimen open end perpendicular to said end, its depth making 5-8% of specimen length, to measure saw cut depth. After mounting of the specimen with thermal outlet in combustion chamber, specimen is fired to keep combustion chamber pressure at preset level. Overpressure is released during a definite time interval defined by relationship protected by this invention. Then, said valve is closed to allow the pressure to reach the maximum value and to reopen said release valve. Thereafter, mean pressure and solid propellant combustion rate are defined at control combustion section of the specimen by relationships protected by this invention.
