SUBSTANCE: hand operated scythe for shearing grass and cereals comprises a blade, a cutting loop and a handle. The novelty of the invention is that the cutting loop braids of the scythe is made on a cycloid with a given radius of the generating circle, and at the beginning of the cutting loop of the cycloid the angle to the cycloid trajectory is less, and at the end of the cutting loop the angle to the cycloid trajectory is greater than the angle of friction of steel against grass.

EFFECT: reduction of energy costs and increase in productivity during mowing.
