SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of operation of the dishwasher (GS), in particular the household dishwasher, in which during at least the first phase (P1, P1') the work is performed with the first predetermined amount of liquid, and during the second phase (P2) work is performed with the second predetermined amount of liquid, at that the first amount of liquid is less than the second amount of liquid. According to the invention it is provided that, for increasing the first amount of liquid to the level of the second amount of liquid the liquid is supplied, which is accumulated in the storage tank.
