FIELD: construction.
SUBSTANCE: device to reduce transverse oscillations of a bridge span caused by wind effect includes destructors of periodic Karman vortices arising in aerodynamic trail above and under the bridge span, according to the invention the destructors are made in the form of plates, having the triangular shape in plan, which are arranged along the bridge span at its both sides and are installed horizontally aflush accordingly with the upper and lower surfaces of the span. At the same time the triangular destructors of vortices are attached to the ends of the span by their bases, and their tops are aligned outwards at both sides of the span and are distant from its edges at the distance equal to 0.05÷1.5 of the span thickness. Besides, the angle at the top of destructors is within 30°÷80°. The proposed device for reduction of transverse oscillations of the bridge span caused by wind effect destroys the regular structures of Karman vortices due to release of longitudinal vortices from each destructor, the axes of which are perpendicular to the axes of Karman vortices.
EFFECT: Karman vortices are fully damaged, losing their periodic regular structure, and span oscillations caused by them substantially disappear, which distinguishes it from the prototype.
