SUBSTANCE: printing apparatus is capable of preventing printing on a sheet different from a sheet originally intended for printing, after completing cleaning. The printing apparatus has a fixing device for fixing an image recorded on a sheet fed from a sheet feeder. The printing apparatus feeds a sheet from the sheet feeder and performs cleaning of the fixing device using the fed sheet. After cleaning the fixing device, the printing apparatus requests a user to set a sheet to be used for a page to be printed next, in the sheet feeder. The method comprises steps of controlling feeding of a sheet from a sheet feeder and cleaning of the fixing device using the fed sheet, requesting, after cleaning the fixing device, a user to set a sheet to be printed, in the sheet holding unit. A storage medium storing a computer-executable program enables a computer to execute a method of controlling the printing apparatus.
