SUBSTANCE: method consists of the following steps: launching a packet loss compensation process upon detecting packet loss in the group of received data packets; starting the first waiting time counter; if the lost packet has not been received yet when said first waiting time counter times out, reporting the information of said lost packet to the sender, and starting a second waiting time counter, and if said lost packet is received before said second waiting time counter times out, inserting the lost packet into the corresponding position in said group of received data packets, finishing the current packet loss compensation process; restarting said packet loss compensation process when new packet loss is detected. The present invention describes an apparatus for implementing said method. The present invention is particularly suitable for use in a streaming media transmission mechanism in the current internet protocol television (IPTV) systems.

EFFECT: image and voice quality of IPTV, improved competitiveness of said service and high quality of providing services.
