SUBSTANCE: audio encoding device (10) designed to encode frames of a quantised audio signal to obtain encoded frames, where a frame includes a series of time-domain audio samples. The audio encoding device (10) includes a predictive coding (12) analysis step for determining information on coefficients of the synthesis filter and a prediction-domain frame based on an audio sample frame. The audio encoding device (10) further includes a converter, which introduces temporary aliasing (14) for converting overlapping prediction-domain frames into the frequency domain to obtain prediction-domain frame spectra, where the converter which introduces temporary aliasing (14) is designed to convert overlapping prediction-domain frames by critical sampling. Furthermore, the audio encoding device (10) includes an encoding device which reduces redundancy (16) for encoding prediction-domain frame spectra to obtain encoded frames, based on coefficients, and encoded prediction-domain frame spectra.

EFFECT: unified audio encoding, which is efficient for both ordinary sounds and speech signals.
