FIELD: information technology.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed is an architecture which facilitates intelligent page-by-page breakdown (splitting) of hierarchical data sets using hierarchical presentation operations. The architecture further enables to add to/remove from hierarchical presentations and manage "parent/child" relationships of data set records without sending the whole set of records to a client and without receiving the whole set of records back at the server, thereby optimising efficiency of operations over hierarchical data sets.
EFFECT: optimising efficiency of operations over hierarchical data sets in a client-server environment by minimising the amount of data sent between a client and a server when reading or editing hierarchical data sets.
