FIELD: information technology.

SUBSTANCE: method of coding video data comprises the stages whereat: video data are received and generated; bitstream is generated, comprising data which represent residual quadrant tree (RQT) for image coding unit (CU) from a series of images, wherein the bitstream generation comprises: residual data generation for the CU based on predicted video blocks for one or more prediction units (PU) from CU and original video block of this CU; for each corresponding node of RQT, in response to determining that the block corresponding to the corresponding node is larger than the maximum allowed size of TU, automatic partitioning of this block corresponding to the corresponding node into four subblocks, without coding the partition flag in the bitstream for the corresponding node; generation of two chrominance coded block flags (CBF) in a root node from RQT; the bitstream is drawn out.

EFFECT: increased efficiency of video data coding and decoding.
