SUBSTANCE: adaptive detection system according to the present invention includes an optical or infrared camera designed to generate image data associated with a field of view, a passive sensor designed to receive electromagnetic radiation, an active sensor designed to emit and receive electromagnetic radiation, an image processing module capable of detecting presence of people and objects different from people in the field of view based on the obtained image data, and a control module. Upon detecting presence of a person, the control module is capable of controlling the passive detector to receive electromagnetic radiation from at least the region where the person is detected, and upon detecting presence of an object different from a person, the control module is capable of controlling the active sensor to transmit and receive electromagnetic radiation to and from at least the region where the object is detected. When using the camera along with the image processing module, the type of the sensor is adapted in accordance with the defined object.
EFFECT: facilitating detection which is not noticeable for people, low level of exposing people to electromagnetic radiation since people are detected by a passive sensor.
