SUBSTANCE: invention relates to optical measurement and can be used to measure parameters of physical fields (temperature) using optical sensors. According to the present disclosure, the difference between envelope amplitudes is found in order to determine a parameter of the physical field. The generalised off-tuning of the bandwidth of the optical sensor from the centre frequency of the first and second generated signal pairs, which is uniquely associated with the parameter of the measured physical field, is determined depending on the envelope amplitude difference. To carry out this method, a device is disclosed, which includes series-connected laser radiation source, first fibre-optic cable, optical sensor, second fibre-optic sensor and photodetector, as well as a controller for determining the parameter of the physical field. The device also includes two selective filters and two amplitude detectors. The laser radiation source is four-frequency, and the output of the photodetector is connected through the first selective filter and the first amplitude detector to the first input of the controller for determining the parameter of the physical field, which is made as a controller for determining temperature, and connected in parallel through the second selective filer and the second amplitude detector to its second input.
