SUBSTANCE: chips are steamed and impregnated in an impregnation vessel 3 of low pressure using the pressurised hot waste cooking liquor BL as the main part of the impregnation liquid, the hot waste cooking liquor gives most part of the water vapour BLST necessary for steaming chips. The first output section in the impregnation vessel 3 is provided, modified to be used both as a flash vessel for the heated pressurised wash filtrate and as improved cleaning characteristic for the waste impregnation liquid behind the grid in the output section. For this purpose the output volume 60 is provided with the upper part 60a located above the liquid level (LIQLEV) of the impregnation vessel, and additional pressurised heated wash liquor REC1 is added to the output volume, and the distilled water vapour is supplied through a pipeline 62 of the water vapour to the volume of chips above the liquid level.
EFFECT: reduction of necessity of adding of fresh water vapour for steaming chips.
