SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods and devices for participating in a service or operation using a peer-to-peer mesh network. Disclosed is an approach for detecting a local service over a peer-to-peer mesh network. The local service is detected by transmitting, over the peer-to-peer mesh network, an anonymous flood routed message which contains a request. A wireless communication node replies to the flood routed message over the peer-to-peer mesh network with an indicator or data associated with the detected local service.

EFFECT: minimising data traffic transported over a peer-to-peer mesh network, eliminating problems associated with supporting and transmitting connections when a mobile device moves, and problems associated with requirements for high levels of usage of network resources, optimising node power consumption.
