FIELD: radio engineering, communication.

SUBSTANCE: method is intended for monitoring the radio-frequency environment during multi-beam propagation of radio waves, deliberate and unintentional interference, signal reflections from different objects and atmospheric layers. A multi-signal angular spectrum of power P, which is the distribution of squares of amplitude values on bearing angles α and β, is obtained by minimising the maximum likelihood function by providing time-convergence of accumulation of digital readings, based on use of a recursive presentation to estimate signal and correlation matrices of signals; the obtained multi-signal angular spectrum of power is used to construct a direction-finding panorama, from which the number, intensity and direction of radio-frequency sources is determined. The criterion for presence of a signal in a given scanning direction is further determined.

EFFECT: high reliability, accuracy and speed of direction-finding when receiving electromagnetic signals from multiple radio-frequency sources in conditions of prior uncertainty with respect to the form of the signal, noise and interference.
