FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method involves fixing a rectilinear elastic strip 3 on the front surface of a tooth of a tool in its end section at a distance L from the vertex of the tooth of the tool 1, said strip enabling extension of the surface of the face angle for visual perception thereof. The tool 1 is placed orthogonal to the plane of a microscope table 8 so that the sighting line of the eyepiece passes through the vertex of the tooth and through the longitudinal axis of the tool. The microscope lens is moved in the vertical plane towards the tool 1 by a distance L, followed by turning the microscope table 8 or eyepiece until the sighting line is superimposed with the longitudinal face of the strip. The angle θ is determined and the face angle γ is then determined from the relationship: γ= (360/P)·L - θ, where: L is the distance from the vertex of the tooth of the tool to the strip along the axis of the tool, mm; θ is the turning angle of the microscope table or eyepiece, degrees; P is the axial pitch of the helical groove, mm.
EFFECT: easier measurement of the face angle in the end section of rotary cutting tools with diameter greater than 3 mm or with any number of teeth, including less than three, using a toolmakers' microscope.
