FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to field of organic synthesis, namely to method of obtaining 2,2-dimethyl-5-hydroxymethyl-1,3-dioxane by condensation of tris-(hydroxymethyl)-nitromethane with acetone in presence of phosphorus pentoxide. 2,2-dimethyl-5-hydroxymethyl-5-nitro-1,3-dioxane is applied for synthesis of medications and explosive substances.
EFFECT: elimination of application of scarce, explosive and poisonous boron trifluoride etherate and elaboration of technological method of obtaining 2,2-dimethyl-5-hydroxymethyl-1,3-dioxane due to application of industrially produced and less toxic reagent - phosphorus pentoxide.
