SUBSTANCE: invention relates to presentation of a menu or toolbar options in a graphical user interface. In particular, the invention relates to presentation of multiple options viewed by scrolling through a certain position which provides selection of options. The method of providing access to a graphical user interface (GUI) comprises steps of providing access to a display area for displaying a plurality of menu items in a certain sequence and providing access to a selection pointer having a geometric figure for indicating the possibility of selecting a menu item, where the geometric figure is separated from the plurality of menu items, wherein scrolling the plurality of menu items through the selection indicator can be performed on a continuous path, and the display area is further intended for receiving input for (i) scrolling a plurality of menu items through the selection indicator on a continuous path according to a certain sequence and (ii) selecting a certain menu item when displaying the menu item in the selection indicator.

EFFECT: displaying a toolbar which does not occupy considerable space on the screen while keeping the options at a visually recognizable size.
