FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to formation of stereoscopic images. A stereoscopic image former, wherein optical axes of an image forming unit, having image forming lenses and image forming elements, are spread in a cross direction in parallel to each other by a distance equal to the pupil distance of a person. A reference window is given as a virtual frame of the field of view in the field of view of images of the image forming unit. When the reference window is projected in order to form zoomed out images on the image forming elements through a left and a right lens, the width of the left and the right image forming elements matches the width of the left and right projected images of the reference window, as a result of which data of the left and right images are read and transmitted as standard data of a stereoscopic image. Also described is a stereoscopic image former based on said stereoscopic image former, wherein the distance between optical axes is increased or reduced to a value greater or less than the pupil distance, and which is intended for a wide image forming range from images at far distance to close-up images.

EFFECT: providing compatibility at the system level in the entire image forming range from images at a far distance to close-up images, capable of reliably reproducing stereoscopic images at the display side without correction.
