FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the application of wear-resistant coatings on a cutting instrument and can be applied in metalwork. Vacuum-plasma application of a multi-layered coating is carried out. First, the lower layer from a nitride compound of titanium, niobium and molybdenum with their content in wt %: titanium 84.5-90.0, niobium 6.0-10.0, molybdenum 4.0-5.5 is applied. Then, the upper layer from chromium nitride is applied. Application of the layers is realised by three cathodes placed horizontally in one plane. The first cathode is made composite from titanium and niobium, the second - from chromium and is placed opposite the first one, and the third is produced composite from titanium and molybdenum and placed between them. The lower layer is applied with the application of the first and third cathodes, and the upper layer - with the application of the second cathode.
EFFECT: increased serviceability of the cutting instrument.
