FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to oxygen absorption in a container, for instance, a container for food products and drinks. A closure (40) contains a case (42) with a part (44) with a screw thread for the connection of the closure with the container, for instance, with a bottle. Inside the part (44) placed is a gasket (46), containing a hydrogen-generating device, with the gasket containing one layer (48), including a hydride, dispersed in a polymer matrix, and PET layers (50, 52) located on opposite sides of the layer (48) . The layer (50) is intended to serve as a controlling layer for controlling a rate of a water vapour passage from a drink in the container into the hydride-containing layer (48), and thus for control over hydrogen generation by the hydrogen-generating device. In the process of application the water vapour passes through the layer (50) and contacts with the hydride, bound with the layer (48), which causes the generation of molecular hydrogen, which binds with oxygen, which could get into the container, which the closure (40) is connected with. After that, a reaction between hydrogen and oxygen, catalysed by a catalyst, connected to the container, takes place in order to absorb oxygen.

EFFECT: construction by the invention has a slower rate of changing the rate of hydrogen formation in the course of time, means of control can be used either to increase the product storage term or to reduce an active level of the hydrogen-generating material, required for the provision of the required product storage term.
