FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: composite photonic crystal comprises an inverse opal structure, including a cured or cross-linked array material with an ordered array of voids, and a filler composition in the voids, where properties of the filler composition change in response to a stimulus, thereby changing the band gap, i.e. the bandwidth of radiation reflected by the composite photonic crystal.
EFFECT: obtaining an inverse opal which includes cured or cross-linked array material with an ordered array of voids.
