SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the separation of an aqueous solution and solid substances suspended in it. An aqueous composition, which has a pH value in the range from 6.0 to 9.0, contains salts of carbonic acid or esters of carbonic acid, or both salts and esters of carbonic acid in the concentration of at least 0.01 wt % of the total weight of the aqueous composition, as well as flocculants, selected from the group, including cationic polyacrylamide, polyethylene imine or starch, coagulants, selected from the group, including a water-soluble compound, containing aluminium, amine or diallyldimethylammonium chloride, or microparticles, containing silicon, or their mixture as retaining means in the concentration of at least 0.01 wt % of the total weight of the aqueous composition. A method of obtaining the aqueous composition and its application for the production of paper, for the separation of water from solid materials in the process of filtration, for water-purification, for the purification of sewage waters and for processing of spent activated sludge.

EFFECT: invention provides an improvement of dehydration, retention of suspended substances and the paperformation in the paper production.
