FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of amplifying luminescence of an iridescent image formed within a sheet material which is transparent for laser radiation includes forming, within said material when exposed to laser radiation pulses, an image from a plurality of insulated volume extended metal-dielectric nanostructures with quantum-size effects, placed between a metal-coated diffraction grating with a series of lines of a plurality of craters formed within it and a metal layer with an opening over each nanostructure to allow passage of light flux into the sheet material, wherein in the sheet material, parallel to the metal-coated diffraction grating, at least another metal-coated grating insulated therefrom is formed, having a series of lines of a plurality of craters formed within it; transmitting laser radiation pulses through the metal layer and the sheet material successively to each of the diffraction gratings; forming, under each opening in the metal layer, two volume extended metal-dielectric nanostructures with quantum-size effects and forming, in the sheet material, an image from a plurality of pairs of volume extended metal-dielectric nanostructures with quantum-size effects.
EFFECT: method of amplifying luminescence of an iridescent image formed within a sheet material, which enables to sharply increase brightness of the image to form a reliable public feature, which protects the sheet material from forgery.
