SUBSTANCE: invention relates to wireless communication. Methods of generating beacons include establishing a delay time based at least on a directional beacon transmission characteristic of a wireless communication device. The methods of generating beacons also include determining whether a beacon transmission is received from a remote device during a certain time period, the time period beginning at the start of a beacon interval in a distributed wireless communication network and having the duration of the time delay. When a beacon transmission is not received from a remote device during the time period, one or more directional beacon transmissions can be transmitted upon completion of the time period.

EFFECT: high accuracy during directional beacon transmission.
