METHOD OF DETERMINING ICEBERG IMMERSION Russian patent published in 2015 - IPC G01S15/60

Abstract RU 2541435 C1

FIELD: radio engineering, communication.

SUBSTANCE: method includes irradiating an iceberg with a directed (in the horizontal plane) hydroacoustic antenna and receiving a reflected echo signal from the iceberg using a receiving hydroacoustic antenna to form a static fan of narrow beam patterns in the vertical plane; selecting an automatic detection threshold from the level of isotropic interference as the average value of all amplitudes of all readings of the first processing cycle of all beam patterns in the vertical plane; determining, in each beam pattern in the vertical plane, the amplitude of the reading exceeding the detection threshold, the number of the temporal reading, the number of the temporal processing cycle; determining the duration of the echo signal as the product of the number of readings exceeding the detection threshold and the duration between readings; the decision on the presence of an echo signal from a target is made by comparing the amplitude of the echo signal with the detection threshold with simultaneous estimation of the duration of the echo signal; selecting temporal processing cycles of adjacent beam patterns and performing analysis thereof; iceberg immersion is determined from the size of the area of the acoustic shadow on the surface, which will determine the value of the delay between the echo signal from the iceberg and the echo signal from the surface in one beam pattern; the accuracy of determining the iceberg immersion will be determined by the accuracy of determining the depth of immersion of the phase centre of the receiving antenna an the width of the beam pattern of the receiving antenna.

EFFECT: automatic determination of iceberg immersion for protecting marine structures from ice formations.
