FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to improved method of obtaining glycolic acid. Glycolic acid is widely applied in different fields of industry: food, leather, oil-and-gas, processing, textile, building, etc. Said acid possesses a number of important properties, conditioning its wide application in medicine: it is used as monomer for obtaining biodegradable homopolymers and copolymers with specified properties, used mainly in medicine as bioresorbable implants. Polymers based on glycolic acid can be applied as barrier materials, preventing oxygen penetration. In addition, glycolic acid is used in cosmetological practice for normalisation of metabolic processes and skin microcirculation. Method includes obtaining water solution of sodium glycolate from glyoxal and sodium hydroxide by interaction of glyoxal and sodium hydroxide with molar ratio 1:1.05-1.1 at temperature from 0 to 10°C with constant addition of glyoxal, purification of obtained solution from resinification products by sorption on activated coal, with the following processing of solution into glycolic acid by method of electrodyalysis with application of bipolar membranes and concentration of glycolic acid solution.
EFFECT: effective method makes it possible to obtain acid with high output.
