SUBSTANCE: invention relates to mobile communication and radio access technology, particularly of the long term evolution (LTE) standard. Disclosed is a method of selecting a communication channel estimation technique using a radio receiver, the method comprising: receiving reference signals over a link; calculating a parameter which reflects the difference between received reference signals based on accumulation of channel frequency characteristics and corresponding noise samples on a plurality of frequencies; and selecting one of multiple channel estimation techniques based on said parameter which is used for communication channel estimation.

EFFECT: providing more accurate channel estimation, which improves transmission characteristics in a communication network, for example, increasing data transmission speed and/or reducing distortions caused by noise.
