SUBSTANCE: claimed invention relates to application of compounds of formula I: R¹ [O(EO)_x(AO)_yH]_z, in which R¹ stands for z-digit alkyl residue with 1-6 carbon atoms, (EO) stands for ethyleneoxide residue, (AO) stands for alkyleneoxide residue with 3-10 carbon atoms, x stands for number from 3 to 12, especially from 5 to 10, y stands for number from 0 to 10, especially from 4 to 8, z stands for number from 1 to 6, especially from 1 to 3, for obtaining cutting fluids with reduced water absorption. Invention also relates to cutting fluid, which contains at least one compound of formula I, to application of cutting fluid (versions), to method of plate cutting, to method of polishing processed materials, to plate and to compound of formula II: R¹ O(EO)_x(AO)_yH, in which R¹ stands for 2-methylbutyl or 3-methylbutyl, (EO) stands for ethyleneoxide residue, (AO) stands for alkyleneoxide residue with 3-10carbon atoms, x stands for number from 3 to 12, y stands for number from 4 to 8.

EFFECT: creation of cutting fluids with improved characteristics, in particular, with reduced water absorption, application of which in the process of cutting will result in smaller energy consumption.
