FIELD: electricity.

SUBSTANCE: method of synchronous machine protection from turn-to-turn short-circuit of rotor winding lies in measurement of a magnetic field induction in two points of the front area, which are shifted along the air gap to the distance multiple to polar pitch. The results are compared and their difference A is calculated. During the preset time of comparison compliance with inequation A>B is checked, where B=koffset·A1, where koffset is the offset coefficient, A1 is a constant component measured in normal operating conditions of the synchronous machine. When the above inequation is met then a signal is generated to suppress the rotor magnetic field and to cutoff the synchronous machine from the mains.

EFFECT: preventing false operation of the synchronous machine protection at external transient processes.
