FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: to determine the distribution and profile of a pollutant that penetrated in a porous medium, a pollutant suspension, which contains, at least, one solid component and coloured by at least one cation dye, is prepared. The suspension of the coloured pollutant is pumped through a sample of the porous medium, after which splitting of the porous medium sample is carried out and the distribution and profile of the pollutant in the sample are determined by the distribution and intensity of the dye.

EFFECT: providing the possibility to determine the distribution and profile of the pollutant which penetrated in the porous medium with sufficiently high accuracy and high resolution.
