FIELD: weapon and ammunition.
SUBSTANCE: experimental shooting is performed, the records of reflection from shells for each calibre of artillery pieces of an opponent are studied, the frequencies of precession and nutation of the artillery pieces corresponding to the shells are determined, the values of frequencies of precession and nutation are saved as reference values in the memory (M) of the radar station for investigation of firing positions (RSIFP), the fired shells are investigated by means of RSIFP, a shell is identified and automatically followed, the parameters of the signals reflected from the shell at the output of the pre-amplifier of intermediate frequency in the mode of disconnected instant automatic amplification adjustment within a certain time interval are saved in RSIFP memory, also the linear speed of the shell is measured within the initial section of the trajectory by determination of angular coordinate and inclined range in two consecutive time moments, the recorded parameters of signals are converted into digital form, the spectrum of recorded reflected signals is formed, the marked values of frequencies of precession and nutation are compared with the respective values saved in RSROP memory database, the minimum errors of deviation of the result of calibre of the followed shell are identified, the calibre of the followed shell is determined.
EFFECT: invention allows to improve efficiency of shell identification.
