SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the sphere of electrical engineering and can be used in a manual electrical machine equipped with dangerous tools. In an electrodynamic brake for universal electric motor, an excitation winding is fed from a power grid at operation in a braking mode, and an armature is directly short-circuited. Braking process is performed under control of control electronics, due to which effective braking is achieved at comparatively low wear of brushes.

EFFECT: providing effective braking with less spark-voltage and low wear of brushes.
