FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an improved catalyst for use in ammoxidation of an unsaturated hydrocarbon into a corresponding unsaturated nitrile, and specifically to a composition which is useful for converting an olefin, selected from a group consisting of propylene, isobutylene or mixtures thereof, into acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile and mixtures thereof. Said catalytic composition contains a metal oxide complex, which includes oxides of bismuth, molybdenum, iron, cerium and other promoting elements, and the X-ray diffraction pattern of said catalytic composition includes diffraction peaks at the angle 2θ 28±0.3 degrees and the angle θ 26.5±0.3 degrees, and the ratio of the intensity the most intense X-ray diffraction peak at the angle 2θ 28±0.3 degrees to the intensity of the most intense X-ray diffraction peak at the angle 2θ 26.5±0.3 degrees is defined as X/Y and is greater than or equal to 0.7.
EFFECT: improved catalyst has more complete conversion during ammoxidation of propylene and/or isobutylene into nitriles.
