FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing 2,2-dibromomalonamide. The method is carried out by reacting 2,2-dibromo-2-cyanoacetamide and an effective amount of a composition, which includes aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution and a catalytic amount of an alkali or alkali-earth metal hydroxide to form a reaction mixture. The method is carried out in nitrile-amide conversion conditions to obtain 2,2-dibromomalonamide. The invention also relates to a method of producing a biocidal composition containing 2,2-dibromomalonamide, which includes preparing a first biocidal composition containing a first amount of 2,2-dibromo-2-cyanoacetamide and water, and contacting the first biocidal composition and the effective amount of the composition containing hydrogen peroxide and the catalytic amount of an alkali or alkali-earth metal hydroxide to form a second biocidal composition, wherein the second biocidal composition includes water and 2,2-dibromomalonamide. The contact is carried out in nitrile-amide conversion conditions to obtain a biocidal composition.
EFFECT: improved method of producing 2,2-dibromomalonamide with high output and selectivity.
